What is an IP address?It is rather easy to understand what an IP address is, it is your assigned address on the internet. Through your ISP or internet service provider they assign you a numeric number that is separated by decimal points. When you log on via a dial up connection your IP address will typically change, with a cable or DSL connection more than likely you are assigned a permanent address. Once you are logged in when you go to visit a website your ISP or internet service provider looks up the location and sends information via the internet to the location, they in turn of your location and the information is sent to you through your internet service provider enabling you to make connection with the website. Without an IP address you would not be able to connect to the internet nor would you be allowed to view other hosts. This number is what allows you to make connections via the internet, marking your location and your internet service provider’s address as well. |
